Summary:
In this video, Lewis Pugh talks about his swimming record across the North Pole. When he was young, his father had a great influence on him and always taught him to protect the world. Seven years ago, he first went to the North Pole, and since then every year he went to the beautiful place. But also he witnessed the changes that took place there, the ice decreased year by year. Due to the hard task, he had to assemble an incredible team to help him. So he carried a large amount of exercise training: swimming back and forth in the ice water. After a year of training, he and five team members boarded the ship with the icebreaker, moving to the Arctic. He remembered that there were big chunks of white ice when he looked into freezing; the water was completely black which he had never seen. Through the swimming expedition to the Arctic, Lewis pointed out three things we need to do. First, each country must reduce emissions; we must all be the same boat. The second thing is we need to review what we have made progress in environmental protection in the short time. Finally, we need to believe in ourselves to ensure that we all live in a sustainable world.

By Lewis Pugh's vision, we can see a beautiful Arctic. But how to protect the Arctic and the environment is a question worth pondering. It reminds me of the cute living animals in the Arctic, which are endangered now, the polar bears. It's necessary to understand the living conditions of endangered animals. Many endangered animals are at risk for their survival, such as polar bears are threatened by the loss of ice as it is their habitat. People should pay more attention to the protection of the endangered animals. For the issue to save polar bear, our situation may not be as pessimistic as previous estimated. As long as the effective implementation of greenhouse gas emission reduction policy, we may have the misfortune of polar bears away from extinction. The protection of rare animals is not limited in increasing its number; the meaning of protection is to protect the entire ecosystem. To this end, let us be kind to animals and create a good environment together.

I also agree with Iris’ view regarding Arctic and endangered animal species like polar bears of Arctic. Every living creature has equal right to live on this earth and nobody can interfere in each other’s life, but we human being become selfish and we do many activities, which are dangerous for the nature. With the global warming, our glaciers, which are the only resource for clean drinking water, are melting rapidly day by day. Percentage of carbon dioxide in atmosphere is increasing day by day and this is responsible for the melting of glaciers. We human beings are responsible for that condition of Arctic and nature and it is our responsibility to save our nature and other living creatures of this earth. In addition to this, industrialization and deforestation play important role in emission of greenhouses gases. Ice is not source of drinking water but also habitat for polar bears. It is very important to maintain the balance of our ecosystem. Every living thing is like a bead of one chain, if one bead misses from its place, the whole chain will break, so we should think about it. (Word count:189)

ReplyDeleteI agree with Iris’s idea about protect the North Pole. Professor Lewis went to swim in the North Pole. He found less snow in the mountain, which refer the global warming in the Earth. There are many proven facts that demonstrate how global warming has affected certain parts of our planet. The future predictions of global warming are important to note also. Things do not look so good, but there are some things we can do to slow down the process however hard it may be for us to accept, that child's answer may be the one we will be forced to accept. We go more into detail on the Solution to Global Warming in our "The Solution" section in the menu on the left. Believe it or not there are still skeptics who still do not believe that Global Warming is really happening. For that story and more, use our menu on the left. We also have graphs and data showing the effects and causes of global warming. Natural causes are causes created by nature. One natural cause is a release of methane gas from arctic tundra and wetlands. Methane is a greenhouse gas. A greenhouse gas is a gas that traps heat in the earth's atmosphere. Another natural cause is that the earth goes through a cycle of climate change. One more cause is Man-made causes probably do the most damage. There are many man-made causes. Pollution is one of the biggest man-made problems. Pollution comes in many shapes and sizes. Burning fossil fuels is one thing that causes pollution. Fossil fuels are fuels made of organic matter such as coal, or oil. When fossil fuels are burned they give off a green house gas called CO2. Also mining coal and oil allows methane to escape.
